Rewilding Club

We are excited to announce plans for a new Rewilding Club (formally Gardening Club) at Perins, starting on Thursday 10th February in S2, when students will start sowing seeds and making planters and wildlife homes. After the February half term break the club will alternate between Thursday lunchtimes (Week A) and Friday afterschool (Week B).

The club’s first project will be transforming the land behind the Stephenson building into a wellbeing garden and outdoor classroom, enhancing the school environment for both students and staff.

The project will establish an outdoor classroom where students will learn how to sustainably grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. The garden will also provide an area for staff to go with a student who needs some space outside the classroom; a good place to talk in a relaxed natural environment.

The area will be landscaped during the half term break and then during the following weeks the garden will emerge!

One of our students, Thomas G in Year 10, has put together this excellent video about the project:

Thank you to everyone who has already donated materials and volunteered to help. As a reminder, if anyone has any spare gardening equipment, plants, seeds, compost or other useful materials to help us get started please contact Dr Eacott at dreacott@perins.hants.sch.uk. Any offers from experts or volunteers to help get the garden up and running are also very gratefully received.

Future plans for the club include guest speaker workshops and a trip to a hydroponics strawberry-picking farm is planned in June.
