Sports News – Including Sports Day Update

English Schools Athletics Championships

Two Perins students performed superbly at the English Schools Athletics Championships. Alex B (Y11) finished 5th in the U17 Boys 400m, running an incredible 49.7 secs. Charlie E-P (Y11) went one step further in winning the U17 Boys Hammer with an outstanding 61.43m (please see photo below). This is the first time a Perins student has won an English Schools Athletics title. Charlie has been selected to represent England at an international match in Belfast this weekend.

Sports Day Updates

Due to the predicted temperatures forecast for Monday, and in the best interests of our students, we have had to make some modifications to our Perins sports day.

Firstly, the 1500m (0845 start) and the 800m (afternoon) will now be non-scoring events to eliminate any pressure put on students to run these events in the heat to gain a house point. The events will still be scheduled so that students who are experienced in completing these distances still have the opportunity to compete and test themselves against our school records.

The format for the afternoon will change in the following ways:

– afternoon lessons will run as normal and only students actively competing will be released from lessons

– shade, through the use of gazebos, will be provided for competitors

– Y7 and 8 events will run between 1245 and 1355

– Y9 and 10 events will run between 1355 and 1505

– the race order for both sessions will be mixed relays, 800m, 100m, 400m, 200m, relays

If your children are competing on the day, please ensure that they come to school with at least two water bottles and that they apply sun screen before leaving home and bring sunscreen to school to reapply periodically throughout the day. Also, please insist that they wear a sun hat to protect themselves.

Parents / carers are welcome to attend. The entrance for spectators onto the school site will be via the Bridge Road entrance and you can use the lower field inside the gate for parking. Please note that we will not have sufficient shelters to provide shade for parents.

PE Kit

Thank you for doing such a good job in ensuring that students are coming to school in correct PE kit (white polo shirts and navy blue shorts or skorts). They are looking really smart. When you consider renewing some garments for September, please may you check short / skort length – some of our older students are starting to outgrow their original purchases from Year 7.
