Geography trip to see ‘Bring the outside in’

It was a hot, blustery Tuesday afternoon on the 15th July and eleven Geography students from all year groups made a visit to watch a new play called ‘Bring the outside in’ at the Mayflower Studios in Southampton, written by Kit Miles.
The play is about a 17-year-old student who is terrified of climate change, which keeps her trapped alone in her flat. Her fears affect her relationships with her friends and family, but with the help of an ancient story and a 3,000-year-old giant, whom she accidentally summons, she overcomes her fear,s showing that the play is about hope for the future and community relations.
The play was produced as part of a scheme to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change on young people and also to encourage them to have a voice and express their views about environmental issues. Representatives from the South Downs National Park were at the theatre to explain how, together with Southampton University and other agencies, they were collaborating to produce resources and experiences for schools in Hampshire.
We hope that everyone enjoyed the play; the acting was very good, and most of us thought it was a very different way to learn about the impacts of climate change.
Many thanks to Mr Calver for driving the minibus to take us to the theatre.
