Letter fromThe Head of School - 3rd Oct

Dear parents and carers,
I hope this message finds you well.
Over recent years, it has become increasingly more difficult for our PE team to access weekend sporting fixtures, particularly within the state school sector. Regardless, Perins has been committed to providing these valuable opportunities for our rugby teams. Most recently, they journeyed to Ryde on the Isle of Wight and to fixtures against Salesian School in Chertsey. The students performed brilliantly, demonstrating both skill and sportsmanship. To maintain a full and competitive fixture list we have had to build strong links with private schools and clubs, ensuring our students continue to benefit from high quality sporting experiences. Plans were in place for a full fixture list this afternoon at Farnham Rugby club until the weather conditions prevailed with the games sadly now being called off.
Beyond rugby, our PE team continues to respond to student interests in expanding extracurricular opportunities. Golf is popular and participation in the school provision is steadily growing. We are also proud that we will be represented at the forthcoming Southern Schools Climbing Competition and to have sent competitors to the Hampshire Swimming Gala this week. A special thank you to parent, Yvette Woods, who generously sponsored our swimmers with Perins-logoed swimming hats. These additional activities complement our already full calendar of more traditional sporting fixtures.
This week, we introduced the Pride in Perins (PIP) Card. This is an initiative reflecting our ongoing commitment to raising standards across the school. Our key focus for the PIP card this academic year is uniform, and I am delighted to say that students have made a fantastic start, showing real pride in their appearance and embracing our expectations with positivity.
We further promoted the launch of our student Rewards Shop, through assemblies this week. This will be a wonderful way to celebrate our students' hard work and positive contributions to school life.
A quick reflection from my own school days: Back then, the school jumper often doubled as a goalpost at breaktimes. Today, one of the most expensive items our students carry is their laptop and seeing these laid on the ground during football games is a little disconcerting! As part of our Perins Values, we are working to instil responsibility and care for personal belongings. Tutor sessions reinforce the importance of looking after laptops and avoiding a throwaway culture, and we would appreciate your support in reinforcing this message at home.
Considering the current economic climate, we would like to remind families of the support available:
- Apply for Free School Meals
- Holiday Activities and Food Programme Grant Letter
We are getting increased interest in Perins from families living on the east side of Alton. Following conversations on our recent open day, we are exploring the viability of extending Perins bus coverage to support demand.
Last year, our fundraising efforts focused on enhancing our outdoor space, and we were thrilled to reach our target and complete what students affectionately named “The Quad.” This year, we are returning to house charity days, with the first event organised by Ventus House taking place on Thursday, 9th October. For a donation of £1, students may wear a hoodie in outdoor areas of the school instead of a coat.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It makes a real difference.
Warm regards,
Mark Nevola
