As part of our Geography department’s exciting new project, students are invited to take part in a competition to name our brand-new weather station.

Each student will be sent a Microsoft Form where they’ll be asked to provide:

First and last name
Tutor group
Their suggested name for the weather station

Entries close on 30th September. The department will review the suggestions and select the best name, and the winner will receive a prize!

Mark Twain once said: “Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get”,  and he was so right. Climate is the average weather conditions over a period of time, while weather changes by the minute, hour, and day.

Here at Perins, we study weather and climate in Year 7 and build on this knowledge at GCSE. Our new weather station will record the daily weather, helping us compare live data with forecasts. Interested students will also have the chance to:

Monitor the station regularly
Write monthly reports summarising Perins’ weather
Track local weather trends and explore the impact of climate change

We’re excited to see the imaginative names our students come up with,  and even more excited to begin exploring the science behind the weather right here at Perins!
