Message from The Head of School 16th October 2025

Dear parents and carers,
As we reach the end of a very busy and rewarding half term, I would like to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and share some of the wonderful things that have taken place across our school community over the past few weeks.
Today we had tears of joy and elation as the cast list was released for our production of Grease.
An extremely impressed fellow headteacher contacted me as Oliver M year 9 recently completed the Basingstoke 5K, raising an impressive £450 for his school. This generous donation will help fund sensory teaching and learning resources for the school Ollie’s brother attends, what a true sense of community. Ollie also ran a brilliant time of 19 minutes and 10 seconds, finishing sixth overall, a remarkable accomplishment!
Our Year 7 students took part in the Restart a Heart initiative, learning vital first response skills. We are proud to offer opportunities like this that equip our students with real-life knowledge and confidence through both our curriculum and enrichment activities.
Thank you to the families who attended Year 11 parents’ evening. Your feedback is always appreciated and has been acted upon. Going forward, face-to-face parents’ evenings will be held in our Pascal Building, providing a welcoming and accessible space for these important conversations.
In literacy, alongside the Sparx Reader, our team has been piloting a “Word of the Week” initiative. Words such as eccentric, compound, inference, and iteration have sparked curiosity and discussion in classrooms. It would be wonderful if you could encourage your child to use these words at home too!
As the evenings grow darker, we remind families that classrooms on the top floor of Eliot block are available until 5:00pm for students to complete homework, with our pastoral team checking in regularly. After half term, we will also be opening the Perins Café for students waiting for the late bus; a warm, safe space to study or relax after clubs.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the upcoming Costa Rica trips, with three groups travelling this year! We will be sharing updates and photos of their adventures over the break.
Finally, as part of our wider community work, a partnership of Alresford schools has come together to support a mobile-free schools initiative. We believe this will help foster more focused and respectful learning environments. You can read our joint statement here.
With half term beginning today I hope you all enjoy a restful and refreshing fortnight. We look forward to welcoming our students back to Perins on Monday 3rd November, when the half term will begin with flu nasal vaccinations for all year groups.
Warmest wishes,
Mr M Nevola
Head of Perins School
