Perins Science Month a Huge Success

Our year 7 - 10 students dove head-first into hands-on science experiences they won’t soon forget!
Biology came to life as students dissected giant Madagascar hissing cockroaches, guided expertly by Mrs Furness and Dr Puentener. They explored the insects’ internal and external anatomy, spotting spiracles, tracheal tubes, and more. Live cockroaches even joined the class to demonstrate ecosystem dynamics in action!
Biodiversity workshop- Wildlife consultant Jon Cranfield led an inspiring session on UK ecosystems. Students got up close with slow worms and even a corn snake! 'I’ve never been this close to a snake before, and I touched it!' 'I was surprised I was brave enough to hold a slow worm!'
Sustainable Eating - The Bush Tucker Trial With courage and curiosity, students sampled dried mealworms, locusts, and grasshoppers in a lesson on sustainable protein and climate-friendly farming. 'I really enjoyed this workshop, and I had so much fun. I learned lots from knowledgeable staff and what is good for the planet. It was a really nice experience.'
Thanks to Dr Eacott and Miss Sweetman for sparking conversations on food security and the future of farming. Huge thanks to all staff and guest experts who made these experiences unforgettable!
