Dear parents and carers

With this being such a short half term there might be an expectation of less on the agenda, but not at Perins!

Several trips have been out this half term including a visit to Bath University for students with aspirations to study in higher education. Planning for the South Africa Tour trip has the Perins tourists getting excited in anticipation.

The Year 11 GCSE exams have officially “kicked off” and the students have demonstrated excellent character, enthusiastically attending the booster sessions that staff have offered pre-exam and after school.

Our new cohort of Post of Responsibility (POR) holders in Year 10 were awarded their ties at the recent POR event. There were some very proud parents in the audience. Siblings attending seemed inspired watching their older brother or sister receive the award, to aspire to become a Perins POR’s themselves when they reach Year 10.

With my conscious drive to have Perins engage further with our local community, there have been numerous events the school has attended, hosted, or worked with in partnership with our stakeholders, taking further steps to develop a higher level of community cohesion. Last week to assist Year 10 in developing their political literacy and assume a greater understanding of the local issues which are pertinent to our community, we hosted an assembly delivered by our local Member of Parliament, Danny Chambers.

Following our decision to move our catering contract to CaterLink, the feedback from the students has been extremely positive with 100% of the Years 8 to 11 who were approached for comment stated the quality and variety of the food is much better than their previous school dining experience. With our cleaning contract having come to an end a new cleaning contractor has been appointed. Since the handover we have already seen an improvement in the standard of cleaning around the school buildings. We hope the impact of changing cleaning operator will demonstrate the same level of noticeable improvement for our students experience at Perins that the change in caterers has had.

The term dates for next academic year (2025-2026), including designated Perins Professional Development Days (INSET) and the Perins October half term, are now finalised, and published on our website. We invite all parents, carers, and members of the school community to consult the online calendar page for full details.

Hampshire Child and Adolescence Mental Health Team are holding a parent event on 26th June. Parents from Hampshire schools are invited to attend. Hampshire Child and Adolescence Mental Health Flyer

A new “basic equipment” initiative will be piloted after half term, aimed at supporting our students with their organisation skills. Young people who do not bring with them basic equipment and require two minutes per lesson to sort out any missing equipment, equates to 30 lessons lost over the year, so the mathematicians tell me! More detail of this initiative will be sent shortly in a separate letter.

Our dress code for the final half term of the year is traditionally summer uniform, which means on their return our students may change to summer uniform as detailed on our website here. This invariably leads to bus passes and basic equipment which might normally be carried in a blazer pocked being forgotten. Please remind your child to ensure all essential items are still on their person. Blazers will still be required on Thursday 26th June for our Open Day event.

Please enjoy the half term week as a family, I look forward to welcoming back our students on Monday 2nd June.

Yours faithfully

Mark Nevola
