Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move into the second half of the autumn term, I would like to share some important updates and reflections from across our school community.

Celebrating Success
We are delighted to announce that Ms Maldonado has been commended by the Spencer Trust for her exceptional student engagement in Spanish. Additionally, Mr Western has successfully completed his National Professional Qualification for Headship. These are fantastic achievements, and we are incredibly proud of both colleagues.

Words of the Week
Our Perins Words of the Week initiative continues to support vocabulary development, with recent selections including Revolution and Resonance. We encourage you to discuss these words with your children and consider how they are used in your own professional contexts, helping students connect language to real-world applications.

Healthy Habits and Screen Time
We continue to promote healthy habits during break and lunch times. While laptop use is permitted outside of lessons, we encourage students to balance screen time with social interaction and physical activity. Your support in reinforcing this message at home is greatly appreciated.

Clubs and Enrichment Opportunities
Perins offers a wide range of extracurricular clubs: Explore our offer. These clubs are well attended and provide excellent opportunities for students to build confidence, develop new skills, form friendships, and reduce time spent on screens. New members are always welcome!

At Perins we also continue to host the East Hampshire School Games Officer (SGO), who coordinates a variety of sporting and cultural activities for local schools. On 12th November, we welcomed ten primary basketball teams to Perins for a fun and energetic event involving Years 5 and 6.

Year 8 Reports and Parents’ Evening
Several parents have asked about the timing of Year 8 reports and parents’ evenings. These have been strategically scheduled to align with students’ consideration of option choices, ensuring timely and informed conversations that support subject selection.

Year 11 Trial Exam Results Day
A couple of years ago we successfully reintroduced a trial exam results day for Year 11 students. This year, it will take place on 12th December 2025. Students will receive their mock results in a format that follows the format of their results day in August 26. This will be followed by focused sessions with Tutors to support reflection and future planning as students approach the GCSE exam period.

Fence Access and Student Safety
It has been brought to our attention that some students are climbing the newly erected fence at the rear of Thornton Close to access the school site, resulting in damage. We are working closely with local residents and the housing association to resolve this. Please help us reinforce the importance of respecting boundaries and using designated school entry points.

Facilities Update
Following our successful £5 million CIF bid, work will begin in the coming months once contractor tenders are finalised. Our next major school-funded project will be the refurbishment of the girls’ toilets in Pascal; a priority identified in our strategic planning.

Creative Arts
We were delighted to have received a generous £250 donation from St Peter’s Church, who praised Perins’ musical contribution to their recent event as “amazing.” This donation will directly support our Creative Arts provision.

Volunteers Needed
We are seeking volunteers to support work in various departments, with a particular need in Art. Citizen’s Advice list 5 top reasons for volunteering as:
connecting with other people.
supporting important causes or creating social impact.
learning about diverse cultures.
giving back to communities, organisations, and not-for-profits.
finding pathways to job, study, or training opportunities.
If you are willing to contribute some time to what will undoubtedly be a rewarding experience, we would love to hear from you at: school@perins.hants.sch.uk

After-School Spaces
As the evenings grow darker, we want to ensure students have warm, safe spaces to wait for the late bus. The top floor of Eliot will have two classrooms open until 5:00pm. After that, students are welcome to use the Café area to complete homework or relax quietly until departure.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to a productive and inspiring remainder of the term.

Warm regards,

Mark Nevola
Head of Perins School
