Letter from The Head of School

What a whirlwind yet joyful beginning to the term! While we have always known that Perins is a very good school, there is a growing sense that something truly exceptional is happening here right now.
From the very first day, our students have set a positive tone for the year ahead. Achievement points are at an all-time high, by a stellar margin, and behaviour points are at a record low. It is clear that our young people are increasingly motivated to be recognised for the positive contributions they make, and they are taking real pride in receiving rewards. The culture is shifting in a genuinely heartening way: the outdated notion that it’s not “cool” to be praised is fading fast, and a strong sense of pride in being a Perins student is more evident than ever.
Uniform standards have also seen a marked improvement, much to Mr Rait’s relief (and my hairline)! This couldn’t have come at a better time, as today is our annual school photograph day, and our students are looking incredibly smart and well-presented.
If your child tells you that “everyone” is getting behaviour points, rest assured, they are not. Those receiving them are very much in the absolute minority, and long may that continue. We have also seen a significant reduction in mobile phone confiscations. I am pleased to report that the consistent adherence to our policy means there is no need to amend our current approach this term. Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these expectations at home.
We are also delighted to have launched our brand-new Rewards Shop, where students can exchange their achievement points for tangible rewards. A heartfelt thank you to those who have already donated, your generosity has been instrumental in getting this initiative off the ground. A special mention goes to Jude’s Ice Creams for their delicious contribution. If you or someone you know would like to support the shop with donations, we would be very grateful to hear from you, please contact school@perins.hants.sch.uk
Participation in extra-curricular activities is thriving, with our Year 7 students rising to the challenge I set them to get involved from the outset. The Year 7 rugby team even travelled to the Isle of Wight for their first fixture, a fantastic experience for all involved. Whether it’s sport, music, drama, or one of our many clubs, it has been wonderful to see so many students embracing the wider life of the school.
There is also a real buzz around the school following the exciting announcement that this year’s production will be… Grease! Audition planning is already underway, and the enthusiasm is infectious, we can already hear the singing in the corridors!
Today, the school has taken on a wonderfully continental feel as our Modern Foreign Languages team lead the celebrations for European Day of Languages, complete with themed outfits and engaging activities. That said, I suspect even the most enthusiastic linguists will not be enticed to try a continental food offering and skip the traditional end of the week lunch, it is, after all, Fish and Chip Friday, a firm favourite among students and staff alike.
Finally, I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the students who supported our Open Day and Evening yesterday. They were outstanding ambassadors for the school, and our visitors were incredibly impressed by the young people they met, students exuded Pride in Perins and demonstrated exactly what makes this school such a special place to learn and grow.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It is shaping up to be a truly exceptional year, and we look forward to sharing more successes with you as the term progresses.
Warmest regards,
Mr M Nevola
